Dream Home

Dream Home was first commissioned by First Site, Colchester, UK, in 1996. The work is a multi media installation employing video, sound, objects, texts and narration. The basis for this work was the fairy tale written by Leo in response to the unusual (original) First Site location - a mix of tudor, 19thC and 1970's architecture. A modern day Hansel and Gretel was written, based upon current news stories at the time to be found in the British press.

The original installation used two spaces, the first was a basic lounge space where the visitor could watch the narrated and illustrated story. The second space expanded upon this tale: a video of a girl continually eating chocolate cake was to be found in a cupboard; sounds of the forest came from the ceiling; banging noises were heard from a chained wardrobe; a boy looked out from a box, and along with objects such as cuckoo clock and an electric fake wood fire, a ginger bread house sat on a table, the smell of which pervaded the whole gallery. From the window could be seen a recently laid patio in the gallery's garden.
